JOB SUMMARY: Manages a team of professionals dedicated to one or more user experience specialties such as experience strategy, design research, usability, user interaction and visual design, content, or prototyping. Manages direct reports and project teams. Proposes best practices in user-centered design based on a deep understanding of customer needs. Recommends and implements innovative solutions that balance user needs with business viability and technical feasibility to provide exceptional user experiences.

Job Description

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to Director level or higher. Responsible for 2 or more direct reports. May be responsible for virtual/project teams.

CORE JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Manages and provides tactical and/or strategic direction to user experience teams. Defines scope and objectives based on user needs and understanding of applicable business systems requirements.

  2. Works with user experience team members, business representatives, and IT representatives to define user experience design solutions.

  3. Recommends innovative user experience design solutions to business problems/processes to provide market differentiation, efficiency improvements, and better user experiences.

  4. Assesses the scalability of user experience design solutions.

  5. Participates in overall project management, time estimates and resource scheduling. Monitors project team progress and resolves issues elevated from project teams.

  6. Researches emerging user experience design best practices and trends.

  7. Responsible for associate management including: performance management, salary planning and administration, training and development, workflow and organizational planning, hiring and placement, and disciplinary actions.

  8. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Typical Skills & Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in field related to user experience design preferred.

Licenses/Designations: N/A

Experience: Typically 6-8 years of experience within the field of user experience design. Masters degree may be substituted for experience as appropriate. Management and/or project management experience required.

Knowledge: User experience design methodologies. Knowledge of user experience design best practices and principles. Insurance company operations and products, company organizational structure and general administrative policies, practices and procedures.

Skills/Competencies: Excellent verbal and written communications. Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative information to inform user experience design solutions. Proven ability to set work priorities that conform with established objectives, timeframes and accomplish a task in the most effective manner. Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams. Proven ability to manage projects. Knowledge of insurance/financial business concepts and as well as marketing concepts.

JOB CONDITIONS:

Working Conditions: Normal Office Environment. Extended work hours may be necessary during work periods of heavier volume of work. Travel required as necessary.

  • Participates in overall project management, time estimates and resource scheduling. Monitors project team progress and resolves issues elevated from project teams.

  • Stays up to date on latest front-end coding practices and user experience insights.

  • Responsible for associate management including: performance management, salary planning and administration, training and development, workflow and organizational planning, hiring and placement, and disciplinary actions.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Typical Skills & Experiences:

Education:

Undergraduate studies in related field preferred.

Experience:

Typically, 6-8 years of experience within the field of front-end coding and user experience design. Management experience a plus.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of web design best practices.

  • Knowledge of front-end coding best practices.

  • Knowledge of digital marketing and ecommerce best practices.

  • Knowledge of insurance company operations and products, company organizational structure and general administrative policies, practices and procedures a plus.

Skills/Competencies:

  • Excellent verbal and written communications.

  • Excellent knowledge of HTML5, JavaScript, CSS, as well as common front-end frameworks, libraries and tools.

  • Familiarity with SiteCore a plus.
