Reports To: VP, CFO – Personal Lines and P&C Sales & Distribution

Role Summary

Accountable for providing financial support for the Direct distribution, Strategic Partnerships and Nationwide Brokerage Solutions business units, as well analytical support for all P&C Distribution channels. Accountable for development of financial plans, forecasts, reporting, analysis and modeling. Actively participates in and provides thought leadership for the strategic plan and operating plan to drive profitable growth in the business. Partner as necessary to build coordinated plans, analyze operational levers, evaluate trends and drivers within the results. Leads a team of individuals that help the supported units meet their financial and business goals. The leader will be an active member of the various leadership teams for the various areas providing insights and influence that drive desired outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Short-term Planning and Forecasting: Accountable to partner with distribution planning and product office leaders to develop sales and distribution forecasts/plans for supported business units. This leader will need to bring analysis and interpretation of trends requiring management's attention. Oversee the preparation of plan and forecast financial output and related management reports across the various operations with recommendations to senior management to ensure business goals and objectives are met. (10%)

  2. Long-term financial planning, modeling and support of strategic plans: Participate in leadership team discussions and lead the financial portion of discussions as needed providing thought leadership and insights in support of long term business objectives. Give appropriate considering to outside influences, competitor results, industry trends during the strategic plan development process. (20%)

  3. Monitor Results: Reviews and evaluates actual financial results in relationship to planned and long-range objectives. Partners with controllership as needed. Analyzes trends and provides insights into operating results & actual business performance levels. (10%)

  4. Distribution Support: Provides analytical and modeling support for all P&C distribution channels and, at times, for Personal Lines and Standard Commercial lines. Leads Distribution Economics team which maintains Lifetime Value Model and support for Emerging Vehicle Technology efforts. Supports various innovation efforts impacting P&C Distribution. Requires actively participating in the creation of models and preparation of presentation materials to support decision making, as necessary. (45%)

  5. Talent Management: Recruit, hire, develop and retain talent to position the P&C finance organization for success. Prepares associate performance assessments. Reviews associate development plans. Plans for talent and succession. Design organization structure that is efficient and effectively meets customer needs. Plays significant leadership role in developing and mentoring Financial Leadership Rotation Program students. (15%)

Typical Skills and Experiences

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or, Finance preferred

Certification: CPA, CPCU or advanced degree preferred

Experience/Skills: 10+ years P&C insurance experience preferred. Experience with sales & distribution planning preferred and advanced modeling skills are required. The individual will have excellent communication skills, including the ability to prepare and oversee the development of executive friendly presentation materials. The individual will have the ability to negotiate and manage conflict and work collaboratively across functions. Ability to think strategically and provide thought leadership.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experience may take precedence. Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.
