Role Summary

This role is responsible for building and cultivating relationships with advisory leaders and across all levels at focus firms. You will lead a team of relationship managers and collaborate with key Nationwide Financial leaders to advance Nationwide Financial as the partner of choice in select firms. This will entail developing and orchestrating strategic plans and tactical initiatives that create a favorable brand impression, win profitable new mandates, and make the business case for existing products. In addition, the role will seek to expand our relationships by creating the appropriate connections between NF and client firms, gain specific insights and access for NF sales teams, and work to ensure the team is focused on the highest priority opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a deep understanding of each clients’ needs, work collaboratively to develop a strategy to meet those needs, and work with key internal leaders to drive initiatives that deliver.

  • Lead the strategic planning process for focus firms and help guide the organization in optimizing results.

  • Drive NF sales by winning new profitable mandates, adding products on platforms, and importantly, creating opportunities to partner with NF sales leaders to develop and drive key strategic initiatives that support growth and access to the right advisors.

  • Create and maintain the appropriate relationships and communication protocols required for NF Leaders, colleagues, and wholesalers to feel engaged, informed, and on-board with focus firm strategic plans.

  • Inspire and lead a team of relationship managers and support them in engaging with their assigned firms at the appropriate levels, creating effective strategic plans, and collaborating with sales leaders and internal partners to execute them.

  • Maintain a high performing team by diligently working to address employee performance gaps through personal coaching, training and development, and helping employees reach their full potential.

  • Proactively work to identify appropriate opportunities for the strategic use of value-add resources to create brand and access wins for the NF team.

  • Consistently adjust and communicate broadly around priorities to ensure time and money is being spent in an optimal way.

  • Develop and maintain a strong knowledge of industry trends, the retail distribution market, product innovation, along with legal and regulatory issues.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Typical Skills and Experiences

Education/Certification/Licenses: Undergraduate degree in sales, marketing, or related field preferred. Advanced degree desirable. Series 6, 26, 63, and state Life, Accident, and Health licenses required. Series 7 and 66 preferred. Financial services designations (i.e., CFP, CIMA, ChFC, CRC, CRA and CPWA) are a plus.

Experience/Skills: Minimum of 10 years’ experience in sales, sales management, capital markets or relationship management in the Insurance or Financial fields. Experience with wholesale distribution of financial services products is preferred. Strong interpersonal and leadership skills. Advanced relationship development and organizational navigation skills. Excellent presentation and written communication skills. Ability to develop and maintain relationships with senior executives within client firms and internally to Nationwide Financial. Demonstrated ability to effectively develop and oversee the development of strategic plans and collaborate with key constituents to drive for execution. Ability to lead large and complex projects. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Highly proficient at navigating difficult conversations and excellent negotiation skills. Disciplined and process-oriented. Demonstrated excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize opportunities, workload, and resources. Ability to work well in a team environment. Able to initiate and drive change.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.

Job Conditions

Overtime Eligibility: Not Eligible (Exempt)

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Travel will be required based on business needs.
