JOB SUMMARY: Serves as a high-level subject matter expert in leading project teams associated with the operation, control, development and monitoring of all enterprise digital customer facing assets (sales, service, relationship management). Serves in a planning role in support of the Long Term/Near Term Planning team responsible for executing on the strategic vision and direction. Responsible for major digital initiatives across Tier 1 Program Support, Funding/Portfolio Mgmt, Buy/Shop, Service/Claims and Mobile. Partners with User Experience, internal/external vendors and business partners on executing the plan and transitioning the work for build and implementation. Collaborates with business leaders, project teams, IT leaders, third party vendors and consultants, etc, utilizing business transformation and agile methodology to assist in the development of requirements for large and complex digital capabilities. Conducts the initial research and analysis on existing processes and applications and combines analysis results with process maps & other documentation to develop business cases. Coordinates internal and external resources to meet strategic enterprise and individual business unit objectives. Manages the planning for all digital customer-facing interactions, with a holistic enterprise view, through sales, service and relationship management. May specialize in one or more roles such as product management (management of existing applications), new application development (plan/build/run), or other specializations as the Enterprise Digital Experience department grows. Participates in UAT and business readiness exercises as part of rollout of new and/or enhanced internet applications. Follows up on recent projects to ensure benefits realization and effective delivery. Socializes findings with key stakeholders, updating business partners on roadmap progress.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to Manager/Director, Enterprise Digital Planning; Direct Reports: This is an individual contributor role but may manage up to two direct reports based on organizational structure. May be responsible for virtual teams.

CORE JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in development of business requirements; collaborates with content writers, application designers, coders and business representatives to conceptualize project goals. Conducts the research and analysis efforts for existing digital processes, applications and procedures as part of near term planning work for new processes and projects.

  • Understands digital trends, competitor intelligence, digital best practices, emerging customer behaviors and innovative ideas that will bring about business results by integrating the best of primary, secondary, and Nationwide's own digital performance data. Proactively shares digital insights with the enterprise and internal team, to help them realize the potential that digital has to drive business impact (weekly status updates, communications, workplans, etc). Researches emerging digital technologies and trends to maintain an in-depth understanding of the content management industry. Uses working knowledge of business direction to identify and recommend enhancements to existing applications. Evaluates new process and project initiatives for viability.

  • Oversees the analysis and alignment of business requirements with the organization's internet infrastructure components including process design, product delivery, organizational functions and overall business structure. Develops and provides recommendations on possible process, tool and control enhancements to increase the quality and optimization of internet processes and applications.

  • May manage all aspects of small internet project builds including solutions requirements, design, development, testing and implementation tasks. Organizes and leads meetings with management stakeholders to learn about existing internet processes and applications, gather requirements, obtain current and proposed process maps, resolve critical issues, and create other work products (context diagrams, gap analyses, BADs, BOMs, etc) to include in business case development.

  • Serves as an escalation point for resolving issues from less experienced project team members. Leads, coaches and mentors associates, guiding their career development and inspiring the team to stay nimble, alert, and innovative. Leads a high performing organization that consistently exceeds the expectations of associates and members with a specific focus on attracting, retaining and developing world-class marketing talent and creating an environment that fosters collaboration, high engagement and success.

  • Participates in User Acceptance Testing (UAT), business readiness testing, design reviews and heuristic evaluations of digital capabilities to gather user interface requirements.

  • Manages and prioritizes all aspects of assigned projects, including planning for future projects, creation of business cases, communication of status and all aspects of project efforts and execution and completion/implementation of appropriate solutions. Leads management of business and support partners (e.g., other LOBs, Finance, IT, Marketing, etc.) to align to strategic and individual business objectives and to educate partners on digital capabilities that could address their current and future needs.

  • As a high-level subject matter expert, provides direction to project teams and/or product groups for large or complex enterprise digital capabilities. Defines scope and objectives based on user needs, business unit needs and understanding of applicable digital technologies. Consults on and leads business process analysis and needs assessments, aligning solutions with business goals and initiatives. Provides strategic thought partnership, and collaboratively interacts with Build, IT, UX and internal business partners as they develop and refine the initiatives laid out under the enterprise digital strategy and roadmap, respectively. Works as visionary and dot connector, advising peers and leaders on the best approach on their respective initiatives.

  • Recommends innovative solutions to large or complex business problems/processes that leverage technology to provide market differentiation, efficiency improvements and better user experience. Assists with creating communications, presentations and decision documents for internet processes and projects as needed. Coordinates the communication of project and release related information to stakeholders.

  • Works with stakeholders to develop and document methodologies, standards and best practices. Provides input to overall strategy development and provides a broad range of ideas regarding process design, implementation, support and operation initiatives. Partners with other areas within EDE to communicate funding results and to facilitate development of the build/run project plans. Also partners with other business units to determine cross-organizational impacts of their roadmaps and work toward alignment.

  • May manage a variety of collaborative relationships with business leaders, project leaders, vendors, etc. Manages service evaluations regarding a variety of outside consulting service vendors.

  • Serves as an escalation point for resolving issues from less experienced project team members. Leads, coaches and mentors associates, guiding their career development and inspiring the team to stay nimble, alert and innovative. Leads a high performing organization that consistently exceeds the expectations of associates and members with a specific focus on attracting, retaining and developing world-class marketing talent and creating an environment that fosters collaboration, high engagement and success. May supervise associates in the absence of management.

  • Upon approval of business case, may lead the defining of new process and project requirements, creation of supporting documentation, and training for internet processes or projects and roadmap development or refresh.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Undergraduate studies in business administration, marketing, human-computer interaction, psychology, or related field.

License/Certification/Designation: Property/Casualty insurance and/or Life/Health/Accident/Variable Annuities licensing and/or FINRA 6 & 26 Securities registration, CLU, CPCU, CPU, FLMI certifications will be helpful.

Experience: Typically five or more years of professional experience in digital planning and technology, internet sales, mobile, IoT, web site or web application development and/or research. Project management in a digital environment required.

Knowledge: Understanding of technology, IoT, Mobile, and key digital interaction devices impacting the end-to-end customer journey. Expert knowledge of insurance and investment securities products and services. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Lotus Notes. Proven knowledge of internet technologies and website management. Must have a strong understanding of customer business and product environment. Must have a working knowledge of enterprise digital technology and all feeder and support systems.

Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative information and external factors that may influence or have an impact on the company, as well as the customers, distribution systems, operations and the strategic planning process. Proven ability to set work priorities that conform to established objectives, timeframes and accomplish a task in the most effective manner. Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams (i.e. engineers, product managers, designers, business leaders, etc.). Proven ability to manage projects and define administrative methods and procedures to attain objectives. Ability to maintain working knowledge and/or expertise in PC-based software programs, insurance/business concepts and assigned line of business, as well as marketing and strategic planning concepts.
