Nationwide is hiring a User Experience Design Researcher to develop and execute research studies that deliver value across the design life cycle.

Reporting to the Director of Design Research, you’ll join a growing team of research practitioners who help ensure that the customer is at the heart of Nationwide’s decision-making process.

Job Description

In this role, you will:

  • Conduct primary research to explore the behaviors and motivations of our users

  • Partner closely with visual designers, experience strategists, interaction designers, creative technologists and content strategists to provide consulting services to business clients and development teams

  • Help the UX team understand what would make a user’s experience feel more meaningful, intuitive, accessible, fun (and even delightful)

  • Inspire change at all stages of product development by delivering impactful oral, written and visual presentations that articulate & translate research findings.

You’ll have the opportunity to experiment with research methods, learn from seasoned professionals, develop new skills in qualitative/quantitative research, partner with our Experience Strategy and Innovation teams and work on products and services that impact the lives of our Members across the country.

Core Duties/Responsibilities

  • Participate in strategic research planning with internal clients and UX team members.

  • Design and execute interviews, observations, surveys and moderated and unmoderated research activities that result in actionable recommendations which drive user-centered ideation, definition and iteration.

  • Plan, manage and execute all aspects of studies with users including recruiting, logistics, moderation and data collection. Collaborate with third party vendors when necessary.

  • Lead synthesis of qualitative and quantitative customer data to inform research and design activities.

  • Present findings to business owners, key stakeholders, senior executives, development teams and other UX team members. Manage open and timely communication with internal stakeholders (excellent verbal and written skills are required).

  • Demonstrate up-to-date expertise in user experience research and apply this to projects.

A Bachelor’s degree in design, HCI (human computer interaction), human factors, psychology, cognitive science or a related field is essential as is solid experience of generative and evaluative research methodologies, e.g. contextual interviews, concept evaluation, usability studies, and heuristic evaluations.

The User Experience Design Research team is part of Nationwide’s User Experience group which consists of 65 user experience professionals from a wide range of disciplines.
