Nationwide Manager, IT Applications - Application Owner in Columbus, Ohio
This position requires the completion of Nationwide’s LEADERSHIP MATTERS Certification. This required training for new leaders, will take place over the course of the first year in the role.
Nationwide Insurance is seeking a Software Applications Manager to drive our digital assets into the future. This person will be responsible for operational management of applications, delivery of software, and the opportunity to contribution to strategic thought leadership and planning. Our teams work in agile environments transforming our applications based on the latest technologies. This leader will have responsibility for directly managing, coaching, and developing 11 technology associates while collaborating with our shared services organization to bring variable capacity to delivery teams as needed.
This person will be responsible for driving work to multiple Nationwide agile teams, managing, coaching, and developing IT (information technology) associates across multiple technology platforms (emphasis in one or multiple of the following domains: Java, Mobile, Digital Messaging). The successful candidate will have demonstrated depth of leadership experience in Agile software delivery, operational management, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate and partner with other IT professionals in delivering technology solutions across the enterprise.
We are looking for:
7+ years of solid software development experience with 2+ years in a leadership role in application development.
Proven track record of delivering large software solutions in an agile environment
Proven ability to effectively manage and lead teams in a service environment, raise the capability level of a team, find and effectively develop talent
Experience developing and maintaining business relationships
Demonstrated high proficiency in managing complex technology development concepts, capabilities and maturity.
Demonstrated understanding of software systems, architecture and systems compatibility.
Demonstrated problem solving, analytical, research and quantitative analysis skills, and analytical working techniques.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Expertise with the following:
Java Experience or equivalent Object Oriented programming experience
Mobile Stack (native and hybrid) – iOS/Android/Ionic/Cordova
Web Stack - HTML/CSS/JScript/XML/JSON/Angular

License/Certification/Designation: N/AExperience: Eight years of experience in programming and systems analysis. Three years of experience in management is preferred.Knowledge: Must have proven knowledge in computer programming language. Must have a thorough understanding in systems and data processing policies, practices and procedures. Must have a thorough understanding in systems analysis and design techniques. Must have expert knowledge of the systems development life cycle. Demonstrated knowledge of project management concepts and techniques required. Must have familiarity of financial statement preparation, budgeting and financial analysis concepts and techniques.Skills/Competencies: Must be able to manage a staff responsible one or more components of the systems development life cycle. Must have the ability manage multiple teams that analyze applications and systems. Must be able to program complex systems requiring minimal interfaces. Must possess strong problem-solving skills to determine the programming effects on existing systems. Must have strong decision-making skills for problem identification and solution recommendation. Must possess strong project leadership and management skills. Must be able to develop, implement and present applications development strategies. Must have strong written and oral communication skills to prepare and communicate programming plans and procedures as well as to interact with all levels within the company.
