Summary: Supervises a team responsible for one or more aspects of data and analytics to ensure data quality, availability, reliability, timeliness, and consistency to improve the quality of business decisions. Manage the development and implementation of Data and Analytics strategies, policies, standards, processes, and procedures to ensure alignment with overall data and analytics strategy while balancing performance and cost. Manage their team on various aspects of data intensive projects. This work may include the management and manipulation of complex high volume data from a variety of sources, leading complex analysis across multiple business unites, effective synthesis of analytic results, development and implementation of techniques and procedures for one or more areas of data and analytics including audits, development of domain governance staffing, data analytics, data mapping, modeling, data and analytic requirements, data architecture, and statistical analysis. Ensure the team resources are aligned with appropriate data-intensive work and verify staff have the necessary skills. Communicate progress within their team and key stakeholders.
Reports To:Reports to Director; responsible for 3 or more direct reports
Manage one or more aspects of data and analytics for a business segment or assigned areas to ensure the quality and reliability of data being used in decision making.
Manage data and analytic strategies to align with strategies for their assigned area(s), IT initiatives, and the maturity of the area. Manage the development and implementation of policy, procedures, processes and programs to ensure availability, reliability, timeliness and consistency.
Manage the planning, development, implementation, and administration of data and analytics systems, processes, and procedures.
Manage a team providing the vision, expertise, objectives and knowledge of best practices; provide the foundation for long range planning in data, data governance, data science and/or analytics.
Supervise a staff responsible for one or more data and analytic areas including data governance, development of data strategy, data analysis, data requirements, modeling, audit/evaluation, standards development, and recommendation of data and analytic solutions.
Manage team in implementation of approaches which maximize use of Nationwide data and ensure leaders have confidence in the data being used for key business decisions.
Partner with stakeholders and assist staff as they partner with leaders and stakeholders to develop their data or data governance strategy, identify the gap between current and future state and create plans to move toward future state.
Manage process of developing solutions and mitigating data, data governance, and analytic issues. Assist to identify industry trends in data and analytics; communicates opportunities to senior management and provides change leadership to integrate best practices which keep Nationwide on the forefront of change.
Partner to attract, hire, and develop associate and contractor talent, engage them through consistent feedback and coaching to build critical capabilities
Responsible for the management of associates including: performance management, salary planning and administration, training and development, workflow planning, hiring and placement, and disciplinary actions.
Performs other duties as assignments.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, business, statistics, math, a related field or comparable experience and education required.

Required: Eight years of progressive experience in the data and analytics, data science (including large customer data bases and work with product, geographic, demographic, customer, prospect, producer, social, machine and unstructured data to identify trends and opportunities), manipulation of complex high-volume data from a variety of sources, business consulting, or data governance or related areas. Experience partnering with and coaching others to successfully develop and implement complex data and analytic solutions which meet business needs within tight time frames. Experience with recommending and integration of data and analytic best practices and leading change or leading a team.
Preferred: Two years experience leading a team. Experience leading data and analytic change initiatives. Experience coaching and developing others. Experience with insurance, financial services or related industry. Consulting experience, knowledgeable and experienced with the core functions of an organization, experience with process design and mapping and continuous improvement.
Required: Effective coaching and performance management practices. Building strong partnerships within and across function. Effective consulting practices. Effective coaching and feedback practices. Thorough knowledge and understanding of how to build skill in others in one or more technical areas that support data and analytics including data governance, data analytics, data science, data strategy, etc. Expert knowledge of emerging industry, competitor, customer demography, regulatory, data and analytic, and market trends as they relate to insurance, reinsurance, and related financial services industries.
Preferred: Insurance or financial industry. Strong knowledge of best practices for one or more technical areas within data and analytics and how to apply them within an organization.

Required: Demonstrated ability in leading change, business transformation planning and negotiation. Demonstrated expertise and the ability to coach and mentor others in building business partnerships, influence, providing timely and relevant information for decision making, and the ability to translate findings into actionable communications. Demonstrated expertise and the ability to coach and mentor others in data and analytic skills in one or more of the following areas: Knowledge management and technical documentation, appropriate use and interpretation of metrics, data requirement elicitation, solution scoping, Experience using statistical packages for analyzing large datasets; evaluating data source to ensure they meet business needs, Data modeling, Core statistical skills including an understanding of probability; Ability to evaluate sources of variation; Experienced with modeling techniques including supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms, business intelligence tools.
Preferred: Demonstrated knowledge of Nationwide business practices, Resource capacity planning, Organizational agility, and Enterprise solution delivery methodology. Demonstrated expertise with ability to coach/mentor others in data and analytics skills in one or more of the following areas (see role profile for additional detail): Taxonomy; Business transformation planning; Enterprise solution delivery methodology; Information technology acumen; Nationwide business knowledge; Validation testing; Data gap & impact analysis; Planning & managing work;
