This function is responsible for establishing, advancing and managing the P&C Data and Reporting Organization in close collaboration with the IT and Analytics organizations; this includes:

• Oversight of data and reporting teams for all P&C organizations (note that elements of this are aspirational) (PL, Standard CL, E&S/S, NWAG, Operations, Claims, Distribution/Sales and Services)

• Stewardship of aggregated team culture built around enabling data as a strategic asset

• Delivery of data, reporting, and operational analysis used to run day to day business operations across the P&C organization

• Managing the prioritization process for data/reporting/analytics governance efforts for each P&C organization and total P&C

• Creation and stewardship of integrated P&C data, reporting, and operational analysis strategy

• P&C data governance and P&C sales compensation governance

Job Description

Reports to: SVP, P&C Operations

Key Responsibilities

  • Solution Design and Delivery: Leads effort to deliver all data and reporting output for each P&C business/function across P&C (all BUs/functions and total P&C); work includes data and reporting work product design and delivery, data sourcing for all work products, streamlining number and format of reports, connecting reporting products across teams and functions, reducing production associated expenses, tool selection, common standard creation, and enabling faster business decision-making

  • Portfolio Management: Leads prioritization process for data, reporting and analytics initiatives across P&C (all BUs/functions and total P&C); work includes building and administering intake process and interaction/communication model with each business, developing and executing SLAs, coordinating data/reporting/analytics funding requests across P&C, and ensuring P&C data and reporting work is being executed in accordance with P&C business strategy

  • Data Strategy Development and Execution: Drives creation of integrated P&C data and reporting strategy and leads P&C data governance initiatives; work includes creating and administering inventory of P&C data/reporting/analytics needs, aligning teams/areas to common metric definitions and data quality standards, developing and implementing cross-BU/function data strategy that optimizes investment/spend around most critical needs, authoring innovative ways to use/monetize our data, and recommending organization structure and process improvements

  • Team Leadership: Leads data and reporting teams for all P&C organizations (PL, Standard CL, E&S, NWAG, Affinity, Operations, Claims, Distribution/Sales and Services); work includes team integration, accountability for culture building, coaching, training and development (for leaders and individual contributors)

  • Major Initiatives: Leads the strategy and implementation of data and reporting related initiatives such as the Sales Data & Reporting effort within the Develop Distribution Program, consultation on P&C business intelligence efforts; serving as P&C business liaison to Data & Analytics ELT Council, sponsoring and administering (with IT and Analytics) cross-functional rotation program; leading ad-hoc strategic initiatives (both data and non-data-centric); leads operating committee that ties together data, reporting and analytics day to day requirements management.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Breadth Across Enterprise: This function has P&C-wide responsibilities for data and reporting output/product delivery, data governance, portfolio management, strategy, process management, talent recruitment/retention/development, major initiatives/projects focused on data and analytics; supporting analytics efforts as needed from a data perspective.

Financial Responsibility and Scope: This function will have budgetary responsibility of $16.4 million in operational budget.

Leadership Accountability:

Developing Strategy - Leads development of integrated/connected P&C data strategy; develops strategy for P&C data governance; develops strategy for organization design and business interaction models

Providing Input on Strategic Direction - Provides input to the P&C and business unit strategy on the use and exploitation of data and analytics and using information as an enterprise asset; helps develop and provides input to enterprise data strategy

Executing Strategy - Drives the implementation of various initiatives, including data/reporting/analytics enhancements (in support of the strategy), P&C data governance, talent attraction/development/retention; delivers data/reporting/analytics diagnostic solutions; Ensures that business can execute on strategy by providing business leaders with reporting, information and analysis necessary to run day to day business operations.

Team Composition: This function will manages approximately 10 direct reports, which includes two AVPs and the remainder are Directors; all area accountable for a mix of business unit, technical, governance and administrative responsibilities. The rollup organization would be comprised of approximately 150 associates. In addition, this role will provide professional leadership and strategic direction (related to data) for more than 100 associates with data backgrounds situated in de-centralized roles.

Typical Skills and Experiences

Education/Certification/Licenses: Undergraduate degree in business is required; MBA preferred. Insurance related professional designations such as CPCU or CLU desired; highly prefer experience with data and analytics

Experience/Skills: Proven ability to lead, supervise, motivate and develop employees as normally acquired through a combined 15+ years of data, analytics, and business experience; experience building out and delivering results through technical functions and implementing data governance, reporting and operational analysis; experience in attracting, retaining, and developing; prior experience with large, complex and multi-disciplinary projects preferred; demonstrated ability to lead organizations through both operational and growth challenges; candidates should have a strong understanding of insurance processes and models and a demonstrated understanding of operational and finance functions; key skills include strategic agility, dealing with ambiguity, critical thinking, business acumen, organizational agility, strong problem solving abilities, and executive presence; selected candidate must have excellent communication/collaboration skills and the ability to clearly articulate a vision for the future across a broad spectrum of audiences
