JOB SUMMARY: Investigates, evaluates, negotiates and brings to a final resolution recovery claims files that may involve liability and/or multiple defendant issues. Responsible for the disposition of claims in accordance with prescribed authority per Best Recovery Practices. Handles more complex files and those in special arbitration with limited guidance or supervision. Promotes and provides "On Your Side" customer service. Serves as training resource to other recovery representatives.

Job Description

Reports To: Subrogation Manager. No direct reports.

Key Responsibilities:

Refers files to manager that cannot be brought to conclusion via regular recovery efforts.

Responsible for prompt and proper disposition of recovery claims within delegated authority in multiple jurisdictions. Handles recovery claims files that are increased in complexity. This may include files in arbitration including complex cases, property large losses, multiple tortfeasors, special arbitrations and litigation. Applies laws, policy language and jurisdiction to investigative facts. Maintains quality and productivity levels.

Evaluates legal liability and aggressively pursues, negotiates and resolves recovery collection. Effectively applies claims and recovery best practices in support of customer experience.

Establishes and authorizes reserves and claims payments within the delegated authority. Recommends for approval all payments beyond delegated authority in accordance with company practices and procedures.

Negotiates appropriate disposition of claims, including payment plans with responsible parties, their legal representatives or other insurance companies.

Serves as technical and training resource to other recovery representatives.

Submits expense reports and administrative reports as required.

Partners with SIU and Subrogation to identify fraud and subrogation opportunities. Assists or prepares files for suit, trial, or subrogation. (Property/MD/Casualty).

May consult claims staff and defense counsel for discovery processes, suit file/trial strategy as related to case-specific issues.

May require attendance at various seminars or training sessions. Serves on Arbitration panels

Evaluates each file for recovery potential.

Delivers a positive On-Your-Side customer service experience to internal, external, current and prospective Nationwide customers.

Communicates with insured's, witnesses, attorneys, underwriters, claims and other parties to obtain/provide necessary information for recovery activities. Provides excellent customer services via communications with insured's and agencies for prompt return of applicable deductibles and/or out-of-pocket expenses.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience.

Licenses/Designations: State licensing where required. Successful completion of required/applicable claims certification training/classes. Participation in technical insurance or industry coursework preferred (CPCU, ICAR, ASE)

Experience: Three to Five years Subrogation/recovery experience, or related claims examiner experience preferred. Inter-company arbitration experience desirable.

Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of insurance theory and practices including insurance contracts and their application, investigation, negotiation, and settlement activities utilized to resolve to Subrogation claims. Demonstrated knowledge of Recovery/Subrogation practices and procedures. Familiarity with claims and Recovery Best Practices, systems, and terminology.

Skills/Competencies: Proven ability to meet customer needs and provide exemplary service by informing customers of the claims process and ensuring a positive customer experience. Analytical and problem solving skills necessary to make decisions and resolve conflict in any Subrogation files. Ability to work independently. Written and verbal communication skills needed to effectively communicate and/or negotiate with arbitration committee, claims associates, claims management, experts, policyholders, claimants, agents and the public. Personal computer skills and ability to operate all related software. Ability to function in a team environment. Maintain current knowledge of manufacturer recalls, Recovery/Subrogation laws and/or court decisions which may impact Recovery case.

JOB CONDITIONS:

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Occasional non-standard hours. Limited travel. Must be willing to work extended hours and to travel with possible overnight requirements. Must be available to work catastrophes (CAT) requiring travel to CAT sites with multiple on-site responsibilities and/or for extended periods of time. Including holidays and weekends.
