JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the overall NRS relationship with the 45+ public sector specific consultants and the 20+ firms for which those consultants work. . Responsible for advancing the brand and reputation of Nationwide with the targeted consultants by demonstrating that we thoroughly understand each consulting firms biases, processes and expectations while also delivering value-added thought leadership and industry knowledge so that the consultant is the expert with her clients. Person must know the tax exempt market well, with special emphasis in 457 and 401(a). This role is primarily externally focused but there are meaningful expectations of partnering internally with case management, product development and actuaries. Specific duties include educating consultants on various aspects of Nationwide, specifically the RP plan design, product offerings, technology, news and differentiators among the competition of public sector marketplace. Role also must learn and be versed in delivering value-added thought leadership programs Nationwide offers. The role is also intimately involved in both large case acquisition and large case retention cases that go to bid and are partnering with a Consultant Firm.

Job Description

RELATIONSHIP: This role reports directly to the VP NF Retirement Institute and a dotted line into the VP of Business Development in the sales organization.


1.Establishes and manages NF RPs relationship with key public sector consultants (45+ ) and their consultant firms (25+) spread across either half of the U.S.

2.Establishes ongoing relationships with regular and frequent contact/correspondences with individual consultants and firms in order to position NW and share value proposition.

3.Delivers timely and relevant thought leadership and industry knowledge to consultants to make NW their vendor/partner of choice.

4.Enables consultants to offer education opportunities and tools that can be used with plan sponsors to drive their business.

5.Creates sales activation by connecting thought leadership to Nationwide’s offerings and expertise in the marketplace.

6.Influences and educates consultants and firms on NW features, capabilities and value statement to have consultants positively position NW to public sector clients.

7.Participates in acquisition and retention RFP process that involve a consultant. Coordinates closely with Bid Owner to assure RFP and finalists presentation are guided towards consultant and clients buying sentiment.

8.Advocates on behalf of the consultant’s firms to ensure their needs, goals, opportunities, and concerns are understood within NF RP. (such as product development, marketing, operations, finance, general counsel, etc)

9.Works with other NF RP colleagues to strategize, communicate and implement Consultant wide plans.

10.Partners with consultants to remove key concerns and obstacles that they may have with Nationwide

11.Must be a skilled presenter and confident in front of audiences of all sizes. Attends and presents at national, regional, or local conferences as needed to build the brand of NRS and strengthen relationships with plan sponsors consultants and other key influencers.

12.Performs other duties as assigned.


Education: Undergraduate degree in marketing, business, finance, or related field.

License/Certifications: Series 6/7 required; designations such as CFP, ChFC or other advanced designations are preferred.

Experience: Minimum of eight (8) yrs in a combination of sales, relationship management, tax exempt consulting with plan sponsors or in a role similar to this one with demonstrated experience in the retirement plans and financial services field.

Knowledge: In-depth understanding of retirement plans (defined contribution), plan design, public sector procurement, public sector consultants.

Skills/Competencies: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Excellent presentation, persuasion and influencing skills. Strong relationship management and interpersonal skills.

Overtime Eligibility: Not Eligible (Exempt)

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. This role will have regular travel (at least 60%) to visit with consultants across the country.
